GINGER PEAR SOUP A cancer fightng food called "PHYTO" PROTECTION

A CANCER FIGHTING RECIPE ...This recipe comes from the oncology staff at St Joseph Medical Center In Washington State.  My daughter worked there in the Oncology  (cancer)Department and their staff put this book togeher and I would like to share some of their wonderful  recipes with you.

Let's start with GINGER PEAR SOUP

From the Kitchen of Debbie Martel

Of course, I wanted to start with my daughter's recipe but this one just jumped out at me.  Summer is a a good season for pears so my daughter's  recipe  will wait.

6 ripe Bartlett pears, peeled
 3 & 1/2 cups water
1/4 cup sugar or NUTRA-SWEET if you are a diabetic
1 vanilla bean
1 stick of Cinnamon
4 cloves
1/2 inch thick slice of FRESH GINGER
Powdered Ginger for taste  (What about powdered sugar flavored with powdered ginger?)

Poach the pears in water and sugar along with the vanilla bean, cinammon stick, cloves, and ginger stick for approxmately 35 to 40 minutes.  When pears are soft, drain and reserve liquid.  Discard vamilla, cinnamon and cloves.  Puree the pears and ginger until smooth.  Pour mixture back into the saucepan.  Add 2 cups of the poaching liquid or just enough to get a soup like consistency.  Heat gently.  Sprinke with powdered ginger and serve..

Of course the above recipe is good for your health, but if it were me, I'd  make a white cake mix from a box, cut the pears in half,  and serve the pears on top and then  top with a touch  of diet Cool Whip  or ice ceam for the kids and the big kids.  A small slice of white cake can't hurt that much, can it?  This will entice your childen ( young and old) to be introduced to  some of the new cancer fightng foods.
